How a tip reaches a creator

There is no ZSocial balance in the middle. The payment moves once, from wallet to wallet.

  1. The creator connects a view-only key

    It comes from their own wallet (Zodl lists it under Advanced settings). It lets ZSocial see payments arrive. It cannot move money.

  2. You scan a one-time payment code

    Every tip gets its own shielded address, so two tips cannot be linked to each other on the chain.

  3. The network confirms it

    ZSocial waits for three blocks and at least four minutes before it calls a tip confirmed.

  4. The creator already has it

    ZSocial never holds the money, so there is nothing for us to pay out, freeze or lose.

What stays private, and what does not

Private payments do not make a public post private. Here is the line.

Shielded

  • Who paid whom and how much is encrypted on the Zcash chain.
  • Every tip uses a fresh address, so your tips do not form a trail.

Not private

  • Public posts and profiles are public. ZSocial is a social network, not a private messenger.
  • ZSocial sees every payment that reaches a creator's connected wallet. That is how tips are confirmed, so creators should connect a wallet they use only for ZSocial.
  • ZSocial knows which account paid for what, the way any shop knows its orders.

Questions people ask before they tip

Do I need a Zcash wallet?

To tip or pay, yes: a wallet that can pay a shielded Zcash address, such as Zodl, Zingo or Zkool. To read, post and follow, no.

Can ZSocial take or freeze my money?

No. Payments go from the supporter's wallet to the creator's wallet. ZSocial only keeps a view-only key, which can see payments arrive but cannot spend.

Why are memberships paid up front?

Zcash has no automatic debits. A membership is a 30-day prepayment that you renew yourself, so nothing is ever charged without you sending it.

Which wallet should a creator connect?

A separate wallet or account used only for ZSocial. The view-only key shows every payment arriving at it, so keep your personal wallet out of it.
